Illustration of one of our lab research projects in collaboration with Kai-ou Tang, a student of Dr. Sandra Gabelli in the 'Business Practices in Molecular Arts' course: this graphic work is based on the recent publication, “Compartmentalized AMPK Signaling Illuminated by Genetically Encoded Molecular Sensors and Actuators” (Miyamoto, 2015). Here, the compartmentalization of AMPK Signaling is personified by transforming robots, whose form and function depend on the cell organelle at which they reside. The illustrator, Kai-ou Tang, is a graduate student in the Johns Hopkins Department of Arts as Applied to Medicine.
