Revised Credit Union Loan Process
All JHH employees seeking credit union loans for SoN
tuition should start at JHH's Human Resources office, not
the credit union. The blue JHH tuition remission form that
indicates SoN in the heading — not the white form
— can be picked up at the JHH Human Resources office.
All forms should include a supervisor's signature and
should be turned into the JHH Human Resources office in 455
Phipps, along with a copy of your student bill online. The
forms will be pre-approved at JHH HR within a week and the
information will be forwarded to the SoN Student Accounts
office. SoN will provide a second approval and forward the
information to the credit union. The student will be
contacted by the SoN Student Accounts office and instructed
to proceed to the credit union to process the loan. Checks
will be provided to the student immediately, made payable
to JHU SoN, to use to pay the student's tuition. The
deadline for submitting the forms to JHH HR for the fall
semester is Sept. 30. For more information, contact SoN
Student Accounts at 410-955-1243.
Community School Outreach
Join the Outreach Committee of BFSA in collecting new
school supplies, lunch boxes and backpacks for Baltimore
City youth. Items will be donated to Project PLASE and
other nonprofit organizations that service youth. Donations
will be accepted through Aug. 25. For more information,
call 410-955-3880 or 410-614-5438.
The American Diabetes 2006 Walk for
Diabetes
This year's Walk for Diabetes will take place at 9 a.m. on
Saturday, Oct. 7, at M&T Bank Stadium. Anyone wanting to
participate can make a contribution, register as a JHMI
walker or become a JHMI team captain by going to www.diabetes.org. For
more information, contact Carlisa Jones, the American
Diabetes coordinator for JHMI, by calling 410-955-6230 or
e-mailing

High School Mentoring Program
Staff members of the School of Medicine and of the health
system are being offered the opportunity to mentor a high
school student through the Johns Hopkins Youth Mentoring
B.O.N.D. to B.O.N.D. Program. The program — which
allows participants to give back to the community, mentor a
future leader and increase their volunteer activity —
is supported by Pamela Paulk, vice president for human
resources, JHHS; Ron Peterson, president of JHH and JHHS;
and Edward Miller, dean of the medical faculty and CEO of
JHM. Staff may participate in the program as part of a
workforce development initiative and will not be required
to use personal time off during a workday. For more
information, contact Andrea Norris at anorris@hcdi.com or
301-552-8803, or Deborah Knight-Kerr at dkkerr@jhmi.edu or
410-955-1488.
