Evergreen House:
The Company They
Kept

On Friday, March 7, from 6 to 10 p.m., Evergreen House will host a special black-tie fundraising dinner, "A Diplomatic Affair to Remember"--an evening of entertainment, Garrett-style.

The highlight of a spring series at the mansion at 4545 N. Charles St., the event will commemorate the 25-year diplomatic career of John Work Garrett, Evergreen's original owner. The evening will include a display of vintage photographs and videos of the diplomat's travels to Berlin, Buenos Aires, Caracas and Paris, as well as his years in Italy, where he served as U.S. ambassador from 1929 to 1933. Guests will then move upstairs to the famous Leon Bakst Theater for a brief overview of how the Garretts entertained their well-connected, elegant guests all over the world.

Following the talk, the Baltimore-based string quartet Chambre Societe Elan will perform a chamber music concert. A multicourse dinner, created by Classic Catering and based on Mrs. Garrett's own menus, will be served in the main house at 8 p.m.

Tickets to the event are $90 for members, $100 for non-members. Reservations are required. For information, call (410)516-0341.
