For the Record:
Johns Hopkins Initiative
Reaches 86 Percent
Of Goal

As of July 31, the Johns Hopkins Initiative Campaign had reached $769.5 million, or 86 percent of its $900 million goal. Gifts and pledges for endowment and facilities total $459.9 million, or 88 percent of the $525 million goal for these priorities.

Recent gifts to the campaign include the following:

Margaret Mosher, a member of the Wilmer Eye Institute Advisory Council, has committed $500,000 to be added to her gift annuity supporting Wilmer's Walter J. Stark Corneal and Cataract Research Fund. Mosher previously has given the Wilmer Institute a total of $2.5 million, as well as a gift of real estate, to support the Stark Fund, the Walter J. Stark Distinguished Professorship and the A. Edward Maumenee Professorship.

The Henry Luce Foundation has made a six-year commitment to support a Henry R. Luce Professorship in Bioethics and Moral and Political Theory in the Department of Philosophy at the Krieger School of Arts and Sciences. The Luce Professor will develop an interdisciplinary program in biomedicine and the humanities for undergraduate and graduate students at Homewood, while being an integral part of the interdivisional Johns Hopkins Bioethics Institute, situated on the university's East Baltimore campus.

The family of the late philanthropist and Hopkins trustee Robert Levi has given $500,000 to endow the Robert H. Levi Leadership Program in Bioethics and Public Policy at the Bioethics Institute. The program, to include a biennial symposium as well as public lectures, aims to inspire intensive moral discussion about critical issues in medicine and social policy among those who are responsible for their resolution.

The School of Nursing's Class of 1947 set a record for reunion giving at the school with a 50th reunion gift of $360,805, part of which will support construction of the school's new building. The admissions suite will be named in honor of the class.
