interesting sites on

Johns Hopkins community.
The university maintains a Web site called "Satellite Observations of Forest Fires." Located at:

ftp://fermi.jhuapl.edu/www/seaspace/gallery/fire/fire.html

it provides amazing pictures taken from a satellite orbiting 500 miles above Earth. A Los Angeles Times article reports these photos are part of an experimental series begun on Aug. 18 with images that show fires in Northern and Southern California, a blaze in Hell's Canyon, Idaho and a grass fire in Montana. The fires show up as pink blotches on the gray, infrared photos.
