As of Nov. 1, health information from the schools of Hygiene
and Public Health and Medicine will be available to an estimated
1.5 million people through Pointcast, a World Wide Web
information service you can download free of charge to your
personal computer. Located in the "Health Information" file on the Pointcast homepage, at http://www.pointcast.com, the Hopkins-based resource will be in question-and-answer format, with faculty offering tips for improving and protecting the public's health. In the future, medical contributors to the site will be able to respond interactively to specific e-mailed questions. The Pointcast connection is a result of the university's recent agreement with InteliHealth, which is posting the information to the web site. It is, according to Office of Consumer Health Information director Ron Sauder, "the biggest, most public splash for InteliHealth." Another note about Pointcast: once you download it, it acts as a "screen saver," offering continuously updated news, sports, weather and business information that can be somewhat personalized by the user.
