Sculpture at Evergreen Evergreen House will host a series of sculpture-related tours and lectures in May and June and again in September and October as part of Sculpture at Evergreen, an outdoor, large-scale, site-responsive sculpture exhibition by 10 contemporary artists.
From 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, May 14, Evergreen will offer a studio tour of the Rinehart Graduate School of Sculpture at the Maryland Institute, College of Art. The tour will be led by Maren Hassinger, director of the Rinehart School and an exhibiting artist at Evergreen. From 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, May 21, Cindy Kelly, director of the Historic Houses of The Johns Hopkins University and exhibition curator, will lead a sculpture tour of Mount Vernon Place.
Programs for the month of June include lectures by exhibiting artists at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, June 7, at Evergreen House; a sculpture tour of the Inner Harbor and Charles Center by Cindy Kelly from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, June 11; and a sculpture tour along Mount Royal Avenue and throughout Bolton Hill by Cindy Kelly from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, June 25.
Related programs continue in September with a lecture by exhibiting artists at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept.13, at Evergreen House; a tour of Baltimore's Artscape exhibition: 20 sculptures/20 pedestals with curator Gary Kachadourian from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 17; a panel discussion with Sculpture at Evergreen exhibition juror Michael Brenson and several exhibiting artists at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 21, at Evergreen House and a tour of the Wurtzburger and Levi Sculpture Gardens at the Baltimore Museum of Art with curator of contemporary art Helen Molesworth from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 24.
October's programs feature a sculpture tour of The Walters Art Gallery by director Gary Vikan from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 1; a tour of sculpture located on the Johns Hopkins University's Homewood campus and its surrounding neighborhood with Cindy Kelly from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 8; a studio tour of the Rinehart Graduate School of Sculpture at the Maryland Institute, College of Art by Maren Hassinger, director of the Rinehart School and an exhibiting artist from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 15, and a lecture at Evergreen House by exhibiting artists at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 18. Admission to each sculpture tour and/or lecture is $8 for Evergreen members and $10 for non-members. Reservations must be made in advance by calling 410-516-0341. Sculpture at Evergreen will run from May 7 through October 31, 2000, at the Evergreen House, The Johns Hopkins University, 4545 N. Charles Street in Baltimore. The outdoor exhibition is free and open to the public. A map of the grounds is free of charge. An exhibition of black and white photographs documenting the installation process of each piece in Sculpture at Evergreen, taken by Norman Watkins, will be on display in the gallery space at Evergreen. A catalogue of the exhibition is available for purchase.
