Ted Patterson Talks about Football in Baltimore

Radio and television sports announcer Ted Patterson will give a talk, "Football in Baltimore; History and Memorabilia," at noon on Wednesday, Feb. 21, in Shriver Hall on The Johns Hopkins University's Homewood campus, 3400 N. Charles Street in Baltimore.

This lecture is based on Patterson's latest book, published by the Johns Hopkins University Press. Patterson's other books include Baltimore Orioles: Four Decades of Magic and Day by Day in Baltimore Orioles History.

Patterson has been a part of Baltimore's sports scene since 1973. He was sports director at WBAL radio for six years before joining WMAR television as weekend anchor and later as sports director. Later, he served as sports director at WPOC radio where he handled morning sports and began the popular "Sports Book" segment. Patterson also was the voice of Navy football for 14 years, announced for Morgan State football and did Orioles play-by-play for two seasons on Super-TV. Recently, he has reported on the Orioles and Ravens for WCBM radio and hosted the station's Monday night talk show from McCafferty's restaurant in Mount Washington. Since the Ravens came to Baltimore, Patterson has served as ESPN's game-day broadcaster.

Patterson has been honored three times as Maryland sportscaster of the year and numerous times by the Chesapeake Associated Press Broadcasters Association. In 1979, he received the prestigious Eclipse Award for his coverage of thoroughbred racing in Maryland.

This talk is part of the Wednesday Noon Series presented by the Johns Hopkins University Office of Special Events, now in its 35th season of cultural programming on the Homewood campus. This event is co-sponsored by the Johns Hopkins University Press and is free and open to the public. For information, call the Office of Special Events at 410-516-7157.
