Unified Jazz Ensemble to Perform at Hopkins

The Unified Jazz Ensemble will give a performance, "Celebrating America's Jazz Heritage," at noon on Wednesday, Feb. 28, in Shriver Hall on The Johns Hopkins University's Homewood campus, 3400 N. Charles Street in Baltimore.

The Unified Jazz Ensemble performs a mix of classic jazz and new and original compositions. The quartet is based in Annapolis and comprises musicians from Texas, Missouri, Maryland and Canada. From 1992 to 1996, members were artists-in-residence for the National Endowment for the Arts "Rural Residency Arts Initiative" and received a grant to compose, perform and teach jazz music to adults and students. They served as faculty and visiting clinicians at more than 100 schools, colleges and universities. The group has performed throughout the United States, Japan, Korea and Canada and has released four compact disks, Unified Jazz Ensemble in 1993, ...now we are five in 1994, Small Town Stories in 1996 and New Slant in 1997.

This performance is part of the Wednesday Noon Series presented by the Johns Hopkins University Office of Special Events, now in its 35th season of cultural programming on the Homewood campus. Admission is free. For information, call the Office of Special Events at 410-516-7157.
