Evergreen Carriage House Concert Bassoonist Larisa Gelman and Russian-born clarinetist Igor Begelman will perform together at 8 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 16, in the Evergreen Carriage House Concert Series at Evergreen, 4545 N. Charles St. in Baltimore. Gelman, a dynamic performer who has taught at Yale, Juilliard, and Oberlin Conservatory, and Begelman, a recent winner of the Avery Fisher Career Grant, formed a duo two years ago after their marriage. Larisa Gelman serves as principal bassoon of the Carolina Chamber Symphony and has performed extensively throughout the United States. Equally accomplished as a soloist and chamber musician, Igor Begelman has performed recitals in the United States, Europe, Japan and Israel. The Evergreen Carriage House Concert Series was begun by the Evergreen House Foundation in 1954 to honor the memory of Alice Warder Garrett, who lived at Evergreen House from 1920 to 1952. Garrett was a patron of the arts who sponsored the Musical Art Quartet in residence at Evergreen each spring and fall from 1928 to 1942. Admission is $15 per person and includes a reception after the performance to meet the artists. Evergreen fellows, contributors and patrons are admitted free with one guest.
