The Chiara String Quartet to Perform at Evergreen House

The Evergreen House Concert Series concludes its 2001- 2002 Carriage House Concert Series with a performance by the Chiara String Quartet at 8 p.m. on Friday, April 26, in the Carriage House at Evergreen, 4545 N. Charles Street in Baltimore.

Currently in the final year of a Chamber Music America Rural Residency in Grand Forks, N.D., Chiara String Quartet is one of the nation's most dedicated new ensembles. Formed in 1993, Chiara (the name is from an Italian word meaning "clear, pure, or light") is one of the youngest groups to be awarded a fellowship to the Aspen Center for Advanced Quartet Studies. The quartet has performed live on National Public Radio's "Performance Today," won second prize in the International Young Concert Artists Auditions, commissioned and premiered several new works and collaborated with such notable artists as Daniel Phillips and Paul Katz.

The quartet comprises violinists Rebecca Fischer and Julie Yoon, cellist Gregory Beaver, and Jonah Sirota, violist and son of the Peabody Institute's director, Robert Sirota. The group is devoted to bringing the experience of live quartet music to all people. As part of the residency, co-sponsored by Chamber Music America and the Greater Grand Forks Symphony, members of Chiara Quartet serve as faculty at the University of North Dakota.

The Evergreen Carriage House Concert Series is sponsored by the Evergreen House Foundation in honor of its founder, Alice Warder Garrett. Garrett, who lived at Evergreen House from 1920 to 1952, was a patron of the arts who sponsored a string quartet in residence each spring and fall from 1928 to 1942.

Admission to the concert is $15 per person and includes a reception after the performance to meet the artists. For reservations and information, call 410-516-0341 or visit www.jhu.edu/historichouses.
