Michael Ain, the pediatric surgeon featured prominently on the ABC News program "Hopkins 24/7," is scheduled to speak as part of the Voyage and Discovery lecture series on Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2002, at 7:30 p.m. on the Homewood campus of Johns Hopkins University, 3400 N. Charles St. Sponsored and organized by Johns Hopkins undergraduates, the Voyage and Discovery series aims to get at the compelling human stories behind medical and scientific research and breakthroughs. At 4 feet, 3 inches tall, Ain is perhaps the only surgeon who is a dwarf. He will speak on the topic "To Dare Mighty Things." His talk is free and open to the public. Ain, who is an assistant professor in the Division of Pediatric Orthopaedic Surgery and the Department of Neurosurgery, has had a special interest in disorders of the child's lower extremities, hips and spine. His research has focused on achondroplasia, an abnormal development of cartilage in which the person has an average trunk size, with shorter than average limbs.
