Young Concert Artists and the Evergreen House Foundation will present marimbist Makoto Nakura at 8 p.m. on Friday, March 1, in Evergreen's Carriage House, 4545 North Charles Street in Baltimore.

Makoto Nakura came to the United States from his native Japan in 1994, becoming the first marimbist to win a place on the Young Concert Artists' roster. Nakura has earned success in Asia, where critics and fans are fond of his proficiency and enthusiasm on stage. In 1996, he debuted as concerto soloist with the New York Chamber Symphony, and appeared in the February 2000 Young Concert Artists Series at Carnegie's Weill Recital Hall. Nakura was named an associate of the Royal Academy of Music in London in 2000.

The Evergreen Carriage House Concert Series is sponsored by the Evergreen House Foundation in honor of its founder, Alice Warder Garrett, who lived at Evergreen House from 1920 to 1952. Each spring and fall from 1928 to 1942, Garrett sponsored a string quartet's performance at the mansion, now one of Johns Hopkins University's historic house museums.
