"Shadowlands" at Theatre Hopkins

Theatre Hopkins' second production of the season, "Shadowlands" by William Nicholson, opens a four-weekend run on Friday, Feb. 18, in the Merrick Barn.

The story focuses on British philosopher C.S. Lewis, author of The Screwtape Letters, who is perhaps best remembered for The Chronicles of Narnia. His readers may not be familiar with his relationship with American poet Joy Davidman. Nicholson's play tells the story of their improbable romance and marriage.

Bob Riggs and Vicki Margolis play Lewis and Davidman. Others in the cast include Seamus Dockery, Rob Douglas, Donald Hart, Jim Knost, John R. Lyston and Windy Marshall. The role of Douglas, Davidman's young son, will be shared by Will D'Amato and Eli Block.

The production will run through Sunday, March 13, at the Merrick Barn on Johns Hopkins University's Homewood campus, 3400 N. Charles St. in Baltimore. Curtain time for Friday and Saturday performances is 8 p.m.; Sunday matinees begin at 2:15 p.m. Tickets at the door are $15. Student rush tickets, if available, are $5. For reservations, partial subscriptions or further information, please call (410) 516-7159, or by email at thehop@jhu.edu.

Opening April 15 will be the vintage comedy, "Boy Meets Girl" by Bella and Samuel Spewack. Actor and Johns Hopkins faculty member John Astin will lead the cast. Completing the season will be "The Royal Family," an affectionate satire about theater folk by George Kauffman and Edna Ferber. Running June 10 through July 3, this will replace Neil Simon's "The Gingerbread Lady," originally announced as the final production of the season.
