Jupiter String Quartet to Perform at
Evergreen House

Second Concert of 2006-2007 Season

The Evergreen Concert Series — one of Baltimore's longest-running chamber music programs — continues with the Jupiter String Quartet at 8 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 10, performing Haydn's Quartet in D Major, Shostakovich's Quartet No. 8 in C Minor, and Brahms's Quartet in A Minor.

The performance will be held in the Evergreen Carriage House at 4545 N. Charles St. in Baltimore. Tickets are $15 members, $20 non-members; $5 student rush tickets are available one hour prior to performance (limit two tickets per valid student ID). Due to limited seating, reservations are recommended. Advance tickets are available at missiontix.com or by calling 410-516-0341. Complete concert information is available online at www.jhu.edu/evrgreen/concerts.

Brimming with enthusiasm, energy and dynamic expression, the Jupiter String Quartet (Nelson Lee, Meg Freivogel, violins; Liz Freivogel, viola; Daniel McDonough, cello) performs with a mastery that far exceeds what one expects from such a young quartet.

The quartet captured first prize in the eighth Banff International String Quartet Competition in 2004, as well as the Szekely Prize for the best performance of a Beethoven quartet. The quartet was also awarded Grand Prize at the 2004 Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition, and most recently the 2006 Austin Critics Table Award for Outstanding Chamber Music Performance.

Winner of the 2005 Young Concert Artists International Auditions, the quartet was also awarded the Jerome L. Greene Foundation Prize, the Paul A. Fish Memorial Prize, the Buffalo Chamber Music Society Prize, the La Jolla Music Society Prize, and the Cape Cod Chamber Music Festival Prize. The quartet holds Young Concert Artists' Helen F. Whitaker Chamber Music Chair, and has been selected to join Lincoln Center's Chamber Music Society Two for a two-year residency beginning in 2007-2008.

Evergreen House is at once an intimate collection of fine and decorative art and a vibrant, innovative venue for contemporary artists, musicians, and scholars. Since 1952, the museum's concert series has presented over 200 performances by renowned musicians and outstanding emerging artists in Evergreen's uniquely intimate Bakst Theatre — designed by avant-garde Russian-born artist Léon Bakst — and 1870s Carriage House. Audiences mingle with performers at a post-concert reception and enjoy a shared experience they won't find anywhere else.

Funded in large part by the Evergreen House Foundation, Evergreen's chamber music program continues Alice Warder Garrett's legacy of supporting established and emerging musicians, and inviting audiences to interact with them.

Additional concerts this season include:

Friday, March 23, 8 p.m.
Adaskin String Trio
Thomas Gallant, oboe

The premier ensemble of its kind in North America, the Adaskin String Trio is joined by virtuoso oboist Thomas Gallant for a performance of quartets and trios. (at Bakst Theatre)

Friday, April 27, 8 p.m.
Matt Haimovitz, cello

The "coolest cellist of our time" (Boston Herald), Matt Haimovitz is one of classical music's most adventurous artists, with a repertoire spanning from J.S. Bach to Led Zeppelin. He will perform György Ligeti's Sonata for Violoncello Solo, in addition to selections from J.S. Bach's Suites for solo cello, and Ned Rorem's After reading Shakespeare: suite in 9 movements for cello solo. A not-to-be-missed concert! (at Carriage House)
