News Release
Ancient Egypt Topic of Wednesday Noon SeriesThis talk will focus on the village of Deir el-Medina, the home of artisans who built royal tombs in the Valley of the Kings between 1550 and 1070 B.C. The village's isolated desert location helped preserve material remains, including thousands of texts which have allowed researchers to reconstruct many aspects of daily life. The lecture is part of the Wednesday Noon Series, presented by the university's office of Special Events. All programs in the series are held at noon in the Garrett Room of the Eisenhower Library on the Johns Hopkins Homewood campus, 3400 N. Charles Street in Baltimore. Admission is free. Dr. McDowell's research and teaching interests lie in the legal and administrative history of ancient Egypt, the Egyptian language, and Greek history. She is at work on a book entitled Deir el-Medina: Laundry Lists and Love Songs. For information, call the Office of Special Events at (410) 516- 7157.
