Yale Gordon Concerto Winner to Perform at Hopkins

Zuill Bailey, cellist and winner of the 1995 Yale Gordon Concerto Competition at the Peabody Institute, will perform at Shriver Hall at The Johns Hopkins University's Homewood campus at noon on Wednesday, Feb. 22.

The performance is part of the Wednesday Noon Series, presented by the university's Office of Special Events. The Homewood campus is located at 3400 N. Charles St. in Baltimore. Admission to the concert is free.

Bailey, recipient of Peabody's prestigious Director's Merit Scholarship, graduated in 1994 from the conservatory, where he was a student of Stephen Kates. He has also studied with Loran Stephenson of the National Symphony Orchestra.

Bailey has won numerous local, state and national competitions and has appeared as a guest soloist throughout the United States and at the United Nations in New York. In 1992, he was a top prize winner in the National Society of Arts and Letters Cello Competition in Phoenix, Ariz., and in 1993 was invited to perform at the Piatigorsky Cello Seminar in Los Angeles.

Currently, Bailey, a student of Joel Krosnick, is pursuing a master's degree in cello performance at the Juilliard School in New York.
