Gordon Concerto Winner Performs at HopkinsByeong Woo Lee, guitarist and winner of the 1998-99 Yale Gordon Concerto Competition at the Peabody Institute, will perform at noon on Wednesday, Nov. 11, in the Shriver Hall auditorium on the university's Homewood campus, 3400 N. Charles St., in Baltimore.Lee, a native of Seoul, South Korea, began studying the guitar at the age of 10. Before his training as a classical performer, he had a successful career in the non-classical field. He holds the graduate performance diploma from the Peabody Conservatory of Music and is now a candidate for the prestigious artist's diploma. He has studied with Konrad Ragossnig and Julian Gray and has taken part in many master classes, including those of David Russell and Manuel Barrueco. He also won the second prize for the D Addario/NGSW Guitar Concerto Competition, in July 1997. More than an accomplished guitarist, Lee is also composer, producer, and recording artist with four CDs to his credit. As this year's winner of the Peabody Institute's 1998-99 Yale Gordon Concerto Competition, Lee will perform with the Peabody Symphony Orchestra. The Lee concert is part of the Wednesday Noon Series presented by the Johns Hopkins University Office of Special Events. Admission is free.
