Collectors' Series to Offer January 29 Lectures at the BMA

Evergreen House is instituting a new program entitled The Collectors' Series, to celebrate the history of collecting by two generations of Garretts that resided at Evergreen from 1878 to 1952 and to shed new light on the significance of the collections they amassed during that time. As part of this new program, Jay McKean Fisher and Susan Dackerman, senior curator and associate curator of prints, drawings and photographs at the Baltimore Museum of Art, respectively, will each present a lecture on Friday, January 29, at noon at Evergreen House, 4545 North Charles Street.

The lectures, "George Lucas: A Nineteenth Century Collector of Contemporary Art," by Jay Fisher and "Building A Collection: The Garrett Print Collection of the BMA," by Susan Dackerman will reveal more about T. Harrison Garrett as a 19th century collector of prints by looking at the collecting habits of George Lucas, a contemporary of T. Harrison Garrett's and analyzing prints in the BMA's Garrett Print Collection to understand the full nature of the collection and its collector. Lunch with the speakers will follow the talks.

Admission to the January 29 lectures and lunch is $20 for Evergreen members and $25 for non-members. Reservations are required. Call 410-516-0341 for more information or to make reservations.
