With the opening of the U.S. Supreme Court s session Monday, Oct. 7, you may find a need for background and historical context in addition to expert opinion on current cases and issues being considered.

Joel Grossman, a professor of political science at The Johns Hopkins University and a constitutional law scholar, has taught the subject for more than 40 years. He has been widely quoted and interviewed in local and national media on Supreme Court issues and cases.

Prior to coming to Hopkins in 1996, Grossman taught for many years at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he was chair of the political science department. He also has been a Fulbright lecturer at the University of Strathclyde and Stockholm University. He has served as editor of Law & Society Review and been the author of numerous books and articles on the Supreme Court, constitutional law, and judicial politics. Currently he is working on a book about modern judicial activism entitled The Judicial Imperative.
