Evergreen House Offers Training for Volunteers

Evergreen House is offering a five-week training program for anyone interested in becoming a volunteer guide. The sessions are scheduled from 10 a.m. to noon on five consecutive Tuesdays, March 4 through April 1.

Evergreen, on Charles Street in north Baltimore, is an unusual blend of Victorian, Neoclassical and Art Deco interior designs. The former home of Baltimore's prominent Garrett family, it includes such amenities as a private theater and impressive collections of Japanese and Chinese art, post-Impressionist paintings, rare books, Tiffany glass and Dutch and Italian furniture.

In addition to giving house tours, Evergreen's volunteer guides also have the opportunity to travel to other historic homes and participate in special events. Evergreen House, one of The Johns Hopkins University's historic house museums, is at 4545 N. Charles St. For information, contact Nancy Powers at 410-516-0341 or visit the Web site at www.jhu.edu/historichouses.
