Johns Hopkins Engineering Forms Advisory Council For
Part-Time Programs

Northrop Grumman Vice President to Chair Council

Suzanne Jenniches, vice president and general manager of Northrop Grumman Government Systems Division, will chair the new Advisory Council for the Part-Time Programs in Engineering and Applied Science of Johns Hopkins University's Whiting School of Engineering, the school has announced.

Comprising representatives of both Johns Hopkins and the Washington/Baltimore metropolitan area business community, the council's main objective is to ensure that the part-time engineering programs stay in touch with the continuing education needs of working adults.

"The most successful part-time programs are those that stay one step ahead of the needs of the business community," said Sarah Steinberg, executive director of the Whiting School's Part-Time Programs in Engineering and Applied Science. "With this council, we are forging partnerships with public and private entities that have a vested interest in ensuring that the courses offered to working adults will be in touch with their needs and in tune with business and economic trends."

"Johns Hopkins Part-Time Engineering has always been an integral asset in my professional life," said Jenniches, a Johns Hopkins alumna, "and I am honored to be asked to head up this first Advisory Council to help ensure the continued relevancy of these important programs."

Jenniches began her science career as a high school biology teacher after receiving a B.S. degree from Clarion State College in 1970. She received a master's degree in environmental engineering from Johns Hopkins in 1979 and has attended the Harvard Business School Program for Management Development.

Jenniches began her career with Northrop Grumman as a computerized test engineer in 1974, and since 1989 has managed a cross-section of defense and non-defense operating units. Currently, Jenniches, who is based at Northrop Grumman offices in Linthicum, Md., is responsible for facilities and subsidiaries in Gaithersburg, Md.; Hanover, Md.; Cincinnati, Ohio; Peterborough, England; Oslo, Norway; Gentilly, France; Bourg-LŠs-Valence, France; Mechelen, Belgium; and Shanghai, China.

She resides in Columbia, Md.

Part of the Johns Hopkins University Whiting School of Engineering, the Part-Time Programs in Engineering and Applied Science offer masters degrees in 13 distinct disciplines, as well as undergraduate programs in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering and engineering science. There are currently more than 2,200 students enrolled in PTE programs at seven education centers throughout the Baltimore/Washington area. For more information on PTE programs and functions, contact Executive Director Sarah Steinberg at 301-294-7070, visit the Web site at www.jhu.edu/pte, or e-mail pte@jhu.edu.
