The desire to strengthen the ties between families, communities and schools will bring 200 educators, school administrators, community leaders and parents from across the country to Baltimore for a two-day conference led by researchers from the National Network of Partnership Schools at The Johns Hopkins University. The two-day event titled Leadership Development Conference on School, Family and Community Partnerships will address several topics, including how to meet the requirements of the No Child Left Behind Act, building partnerships upon a school's multicultural community, and how to implement an interactive homework program known as Teachers Involve Parents in Schoolwork (TIPS), which helps families become more involved in their children's learning activities. The conference includes a showcase social from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m., March 13, when conference attendees will share stories and displays documenting successful school/community activities and leadership approaches. Education reporters are welcome to attend the conference to make key contacts and find story ideas. A schedule is available online at www.csos.jhu.edu/p2000/adobepdf/ Mar%2003%20Registration.pdf.
