Honor Two Instructors
Zohreh Movahed and John Romano Receive
Excellence in Teaching Awards
The Johns Hopkins University's Whiting School of Engineering has presented Excellence in Teaching Awards to Zohreh Movahed and John Romano, two instructors in the school's Part-Time Programs in Engineering and Applied Science. Each year the engineering school, with input from its academic chairs, acknowledges the outstanding teaching skills of two adjunct instructors with these awards.
Movahed, who is safety manager for the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission, has been associated with Johns Hopkins for seven years. He currently teaches an on-line virtual course called Principles of Water and Waste Water Treatment.
Romano, who earned a graduate degree in computer science from Johns Hopkins, teaches in the Information Systems and Technology Program. Romano also serves as head of information technology for the University of Maryland's Center for Advanced Study of Language.
Allan Bjerkaas, associate dean for the Part-Time Programs in Engineering and Applied Science, said that presenting these annual honors was one of the most rewarding facets of his job because these faculty accomplishments call attention to PTE's goal of instructor excellence in the classroom. "These awards reflect our students' learning experiences in our real and virtual classrooms, and there is no better measure of instructional excellence than an endorsement from our students," Bjerkaas said.
Part of The Johns Hopkins University's Whiting School of Engineering, the Part-Time Programs in Engineering and Applied Science offer masters degrees in 13 distinct disciplines, as well as undergraduate programs in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering and engineering science. There are currently more than 2,200 students enrolled in PTE programs at seven education centers throughout the Baltimore/Washington area.
