School administrators across the country will be able to enroll this winter in an 18-credit online graduate certificate program in school administration and supervision through The Johns Hopkins University, in collaboration with the International Society for Technology in Education.

The yearlong certificate program offered by the School of Professional Studies in Business and Education at Johns Hopkins will emphasize and use instructional technology in preparing administrators and supervisors in school, district, or state positions with effective strategies to improve student achievement. Johns Hopkins is seeking applicants for the next cohort beginning in June 2006.

"This innovative partnership between Johns Hopkins University and ISTE promises to break new ground in the preparation of school leaders," said Edward Pajak, a professor and chair of the Department of Teacher Development and Leadership of the Graduate Division of Education at Johns Hopkins. "The online program promises to maintain the high standards of quality inherent in the Johns Hopkins program while meeting the specialized needs of educators, who have a strong interest in applying technology to school leadership." The division is accredited by the National Council of Accreditation of Teacher Education and is part of the School of Professional Studies in Business and Education at Johns Hopkins.

The program will be offered online in a format developed by the Center for Technology in Education at Johns Hopkins. It combines five eight-week courses, a customized internship, and two meetings at the annual National Educational Computing Conference during the summer. Upon completion of the program, participants earn the 18- credit certificate and are prepared to meet the standards of the Interstate School Leaders Licensure Consortium. In Maryland, graduates qualify for certification as a school administrator. Maryland's certification office has reciprocity with 28 other states.

The national cohorts in this program will experience opportunities and recognition as emerging leaders in the ISTE organization at NECC and as members of an international network of leaders participating in this program.
