Panelists Joseph Arminio, publisher of The Citizens' Monitor, and Carl Christ, professor emeritus of economics at The Johns Hopkins University, will discuss whether reinstating the gold standard would help the United States' economy. Avoiding jargon, Arminio and Christ will talk about the ailing American and overseas economies, and will debate the cases for and against the restoration of the gold standard. Arminio, an alumnus of Johns Hopkins, is the author of "Precedent for Peace." Christ is the author of "Econometrics, Macroeconomics and Economic Policy." The event is free and open to the public. It is sponsored by The Citizens' Monitor, a non-partisan newspaper in Severna Park, Md., and The Hopkins Donkey, a publication of the Johns Hopkins College Democrats. For information, contact Saul Garlick, at 303-908-6730 or saul@jhu.edu. To speak with Arminio, call 410-647-5282 or e-mail citizensmonitor@earthlink.net.
