Whiting School of Engineering
Names New Marketing Director

Abby Lattes Will Seek to Raise Public Profile
of Johns Hopkins Division

Abby Lattes, who has extensive experience in marketing and public relations for non-profit organizations and corporate clients in Maryland, has been named director of marketing and communications for the Whiting School of Engineering at The Johns Hopkins University.

Her role will include enhancing visibility of the Whiting School, which has a full-time enrollment of about 1,300 undergraduates and 600 graduate students and one of the nation's largest part-time engineering graduate programs. The school is focused on leadership in both education and research and includes, in collaboration with the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, the top-ranked biomedical engineering program in the country.

Lattes will develop a comprehensive marketing plan for the school and centralize its communications efforts, establishing a graphic identity, organizational voice and institutional message. She will report to Nicholas Jones, dean of the Whiting School.

Lattes, a resident of Baltimore, moves into her new job after working since 2004 as manager of communications and marketing for Johns Hopkins University s historic houses, the Evergreen House and Homewood House museums. Prior to that, she worked as a marketing and public relations consultant for clients that included the Jewish Museum of Maryland, the Maryland Humanities Council and the Mount Vernon Cultural District.

From 1999 through 2002, she served as director of public relations and marketing for the Maryland Historical Society. In that role, she supervised a comprehensive communications program for the society and the Baltimore Civil War Museum.

Lattes is a 1987 graduate of Hamilton College, where she earned a bachelor of arts degree.
