WHEN: 4 p.m. on Sunday, June 1
WHERE: Shriver Hall Auditorium, Johns Hopkins University's Homewood campus; Visitor parking is available in the South Garage, 3101 Wyman Park Drive, Baltimore, Md. 21211.

Baltimore Talent Development High School, opened in 2004 as one of the city's innovation high schools, will graduate its first class on June 1. The nearly 100 graduates will give the class a graduation rate of approximately 80 percent. All students have been accepted into a two- or four-year college, a trade school or military service. The graduation rate and acceptances to post-secondary programs are especially impressive given the starting point of many of these students when they arrived at BTDHS. Less than 20 percent of the class was performing at or near grade level; 50 percent of the students were performing between fifth- and seventh-grade levels and 30 percent below fifth-grade level. Twenty percent of the students were designated as in need of special education.

Among the four-year colleges to which seniors are accepted: Georgetown University, Towson University, Drexel University, Temple University, College of Notre Dame of Maryland, Morgan State University, Coppin State University, University of Maryland-College Park, University of Maryland-Eastern Shore, St. John's University, Hood College, Hampton University, Mercy College and Central Pennsylvania College.

Special awards: Founders' scholarship to be awarded to one or two students who overcame the greatest obstacles to stay on the path to graduation.

Speaker: State Senator Verna L. Jones of Baltimore
