Hopkins School of Continuing Studies Names Susan Dyer Director of Marketing Communications

The Johns Hopkins University School of Continuing Studies has named Susan L. Dyer director of Marketing Communications. She will be responsible for developing marketing and advertising strategies for raising public awareness for the school.

Prior to her Hopkins appointment, Dyer was director of Marketing at the University of Maryland Medical Center, in Baltimore. Previously, she was director of Marketing Communications for the Department of Government and Community Affairs at the Children's National Medical Center, in Washington, D.C. Dyer also formed her own marketing communications company, Word and Image Design, and served as director of Public Relations and Marketing at Providence Hospital, in Washington, D.C., and as Southern California media coordinator for the California State Department of Mental Health, in Los Angeles.

Among Dyer's professional honors is the first place Award of Excellence for Marketing, given by the Association of American Medical Colleges, and the American Marketing Association's first place award for a senior health services campaign. She also has received both an Emmy Award and an Academy Award nomination for non-feature work for which she served as producer.

Dyer earned a bachelor's degree in international relations and a master's degree in journalism from the University of California at Los Angeles.

The School of Continuing Studies has existed at Hopkins since the early 1900s. The school offers advanced degrees in education, business and liberal arts as well as non- credit courses in the Odyssey Program. The Evergreen Society offers non-credit courses for retirees. The school holds classes on campuses in Baltimore, Washington, Montgomery County and Columbia, Md.
