Marc D. Donohue, a professor of chemical engineering at The Johns Hopkins University, will become the new associate dean for research in the university's Whiting School of Engineering. Ilene Busch-Vishniac dean of the Whiting School, announced the appointment, which is effective July 1.

"Marc has previously served as chairman of the Chemical Engineering Department and brings to the job a vast knowledge of Hopkins, Whiting School of Engineering research priorities and industries in Maryland," Busch-Vishniac said.

In his new post, Donohue will help develop new funding opportunities involving government and industry sponsors.

Donohue joined the Whiting School faculty in 1979 as an assistant professor. Earlier, he earned a B.S. degree in chemical engineering at Clarkson College of Technology and a Ph.D. in chemical engineering at the University of California, Berkeley. One of the focal points of his research is the thermodynamic properties of complex molecules.

As associate dean for research, Donohue will succeed Douglas M. Green, who is leaving to became dean of the engineering school at Marquette University in Milwaukee, also effective July 1.

Donohue resides in Ellicott City, Md.
