Support Group for Katrina-affected Staff and Faculty The Faculty and Staff Assistance Program along with WORKlife Programs are offering a support group for employees who are affected by Hurricane Katrina. The first meeting will be on Tuesday, Sept. 13, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Please call 443 287-7000 for more information.
General Information Faculty and staff in need of hurricane-related assistance can call the Faculty and Staff Assistance Program at 443-997-7000 or 443-287-7000. FASAP offers identification and assessment of personal, family, and school/work-related issues; brief counseling and consultation to faculty, crisis response services, preventive and educational sessions; support and discussion groups; staff and employees; and referral to appropriate and accessible services and resources. FASAP services are private and confidential, in accordance with state law and university policies. Faculty, staff and employees and their immediate family members are eligible for FASAP services. There is no cost for using FASAP services. University faculty and staff who may need to provide emergency support for family in the hurricane-affected area may wish to consider an emergency loan. The university provides emergency loans in the amount of $750. The Faculty and Staff Assistance Program (call 410-955-1220) handles the application process. Loans are made by the Johns Hopkins Federal Credit Union. The employee must be a member of the credit union. The employee's supervisor must certify that the borrower is a university employee in good standing. Loans are paid back by payroll deduction over six months. FASAP does an assessment to determine if there are other needs that an employee might have. Employees should be prepared to provide verification of needs, such as copies of bills or other documentation. Johns Hopkins Health System Corp. and Johns Hopkins Hospital also have an emergency loan program for employees. Find information here.
