Reiner Appointed Community Relations Coordinator

Salem Reiner has been appointed coordinator of community relations at The Johns Hopkins University, responsible for strengthening the university's ties to the neighborhoods around several of its campuses and responding to community issues and concerns.

Reiner comes to Johns Hopkins from Hunter Interests Inc. in Annapolis, where he worked on consulting projects on economic development, real estate development and other issues for clients across the country. Previously, he was with the Baltimore County Department of Economic Development, the Division of Economic Development in the city of Trenton, N.J., and the office of Pennsylvania state Sen. Hardy Williams.

As coordinator of community relations at Hopkins, Reiner succeeds Bret Schreiber, now interim director of the university's Office of State Relations. He will be responsible for community relations at the Homewood and Peabody Institute campuses and at the Johns Hopkins at Eastern and Downtown Center facilities, all in Baltimore.

"The university's leadership is committed to being a good neighbor. We hope to strengthen existing relationships with the community that have been developed and nurtured by Bret," said Marguerite Sonneborn, interim executive director of governmental relations. "Salem has the right blend of community relations and economic development experience and the communications skills that are essential in this position."

Reiner is a 1986 graduate of St. Lawrence University and earned a master of government administration degree in 1988 from the Fels Center of Government at the University of Pennsylvania.
