B. Michael Baltzell  

B. Michael Baltzell (Mike) Baltzell retired from Alcoa in September of 2005 after more than 34 years of service in the Aluminium Industry from the position of President Primary Growth for Alcoa to which he was appointed in December 2001. In that position he was responsible for developing organic growth opportunities in the Primary Group from initiation through start up. In that role he developed and staffed the Growth Organization and was the Lead Negotiator for the Alcoa Fjardaal Aluminium Smelter in Eastern Iceland. Prior to that he was President, Alcoa World Alumina - Australia and Managing Director, Alcoa of Australia from December 1998 and was stationed in Perth, Australia. He joined Alcoa in July 1998 following Alcoa’s acquisition of Alumax Inc. as Executive Vice President, Manufacturing for the Primary Metals business unit. Prior to joining Alcoa, Mike was President of Alumax Primary Aluminum Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of Alumax Inc.


After retirement, Mike consulted exclusively with Alcoa in the areas of Smelting Technology, Raw Material Supply Strategy, and due diligence for smelters until September 2007. He has extensive experience in China.


Mike is currently President of Baltzell Management Consulting, LLC and has been consulting with companies in Canada, the Middle East and China in areas related to aluminum.


Mike began his career in 1971 as an industrial engineer with the Eastalco Aluminum Company, then owned by Howmet Corporation located in Frederick, Maryland. He became production services superintendent in 1977 and potline superintendent in 1981. In 1987, Mike was named senior vice president and general manager of Eastalco. He was
elected president of Alumax Primary Aluminum Corporation in 1994, which was located in Norcross, Georgia.


Mike was born April 29, 1949 in Thurmont, Maryland. He received his bachelor of engineering science degree in operations research and industrial engineering from Johns Hopkins University in 1971 and a Master of Science degree in operations research from George Washington University in 1976. Mike also conducted postgraduate studies at Hood College and is a graduate of the University of Michigan Executive Program.

Richard Berger

 

Richard Berger is a Senior Vice President at The Northern Trust Company, a Chicago based global financial services company. He is a Client Executive with focus on large and complex client relationships within the insurance marketplace. As a Client Executive, he is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the global relationship his clients have with the bank. Richard has over 30 years of banking experience.

Prior to his banking career, he spent five years as a telecommunications and management consultant. he received his B.E.S. degree in Industrial Engineering & Operation Research, and a M.S.E. degreen in Mathematical Sciences from Johns Hopkins University; and a M.B.A. degree in Finance from Monmouth University in West Long Beach, New Jersey.

Antonello Bove

 

Antonello's expertise includes project management, corporate strategy. He's managed projects and activities for more than 20 years in the private and government sectors. He has served as CEO for a manufacturing company in the US and is now a program leader with an international development bank based out of Washington DC, which advises companies on how to grow internationally in the market place. His extensive travel takes him to Latin America, Europe and the United States. Previously, he taught international business at the University of Evansville (Indiana) and is now lecturing at universities and conferences around the world. He has authored three books on strategic planning and project management.

Kevin Callahan

 

Kevin, co-founder of MapMyFitness, created the original MapMyRun to help him map and record the runs he completed over the course of his training for his first marathon. In 2006, he teamed up with Jeff Kalikstein and Robin Thurston to form MapMyFitness and envisioned the launch of a wide variety of fitness related websites aimed at empowering individuals to live healthy and active lifestyles. Before his foray into the fitness industry Kevin was Lead Architect at SiteLab; VP Technology at Universal Travel Insurance; Director of Development at PopStick.

Kevin attended Johns Hopkins where he received a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering.

Joe Carney  

Joe is responsible for overseeing the delivery of RBS Markets & International Banking Products, services, and solutions with a focus on Financial Institutions including Asset Managers, Insurance, and Banks across a variety of businesses including Rates, Mortgages, Credit, FX and Equities. Joined the company in 2010 and has been in his current position as Co-Head of Financial Institutions, Americas since 2012.

Prior to joining RBS, Joe spent more than nine years at Morgan Stanley as a Managing Director. Joe’s responsibilities included leading regional teams around the world to deliver predominately fixed income products and solutions to
banks, hedge funds, insurance companies, and other global financial institutions. Additionally, Joe spent nearly ten years at Credit Suisse holding various leadership positions within the Fixed Income Department. He also spent the
2008-2009 academic year as Associate Dean at the Johns Hopkins University Carey Business School.

Joe received his MBA from Loyola University Maryland and his BS in Engineering (Magna Cum Laude) from Loyola University Maryland.

Yair Flicker  

Yair is the founder and President of SmartLogic (http://smartlogic.io/)-a consultancy that builds custom web/mobile software applications. SmartLogic has worked with dozens of startups as well as established corporations like ExxonMobil and JP Morgan Chase. SmartLogic has a team of 11 developers / designers and has been in operation since 2005. Yair is also a cofounder and Director of Operations for TeamPassword (http://teampassword.com/)-a SAAS product that makes it easy for small businesses and organizations to share passwords. Outside of professional activities Yair is a founding board member of Bikemore-Baltimore's bicycling advocacy organization, is the Vice Chair of the Greater Baltimore Tech Council, and is on the board of the Incentive Mentoring Program's Alumni Board. IMP is an organization that works with at-risk high school students. Yair is an avid runner, biker, student pilot, dual EU/US citizen, and world traveler. He received his BS/MSE degrees in Computer Science from Johns Hopkins University in 2006.

James C. Foster  

James C. Foster is the Founder and CEO of Orange Knocks. Foster is an industry veteran and a world-renown thought leader on cyber security. He’s published over a dozen books, is a patent-holder, has spoken on Capital Hill about the increase in international cyber threats, and is a recognized keynote speaker. In 2006, Foster founded the cyber security firm, Ciphent. Ciphent grew to almost 100 employees with 1000 customers by 2010 when it was acquired by Accuvant. With a three year growth rate of 8900+%, Ciphent was recognized as the #16th fastest growing private company in the US by Inc. Magazine and #1 in Maryland.

As Chairman of the Advisory Board and SVP while at Accuvant, Foster lead the successful acquisition of V3rity while the company achieved 50% year-over-year growth in 2011 with revenues in excess of $325M. Additionally, Foster has had the privilege of working with several other high growth cyber security organizations such as Booz Allen and Hamilton and Computer Sciences Corporation and executing on exit strategies for companies including: Foundstone (acquired by McAfee for $86M), Guardent (acquired by Verisign $135M), and Information Security Magazine (acquired by Tech Target Media for an unpublicized amount).

Foster started his career as a civilian in the United States Navy in Annapolis, Maryland. In 2005, Foster became a Fellow from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania and has received his Bachelor of Science in Software Engineering from Capitol College.

George Georgallides  

For the past 2 years have been the founding managing partner for the corporate venture arm of bi-coastal media firm Curious Pictures having invested in 4 platform technologies and having incubated 5 projects of which 2 have received production deals with large media companies. Prior to that, I was a founding member in a medical device company developing products to treat cardiovascular disease with 3 awarded patents and a prestigious scientific advisory board and before that I was the CEO of an import export company which I grew to over $2MM in sales before selling to a competitor.

Dr. Gautam Gulati  

Dr. Gulati is the Chief Medical Officer and Head of Product Innovation for Physicians Interactive Holdings, where he leads a world-class team to ideate, design, build, and deploy disruptive solutions for a health audience. In addition to his executive role, he serves as an Adjunct Professor of “Medical Innovation and Entrepreneurship” at Johns Hopkins University Carey Business School, sits on numerous company boards, and speaks at a variety of events around the world.

Josh Hurewitz  

Josh Hurewitz, MBA, PhD is an independent consultant with more than 25 years of experience focused on business strategy, business growth initiatives, market strategy, new business development and process improvement. He has worked in a wide range of industries, including significant experience in aviation, security, defense, health care, power, construction, agriculture, distribution and others. Besides his consulting experience, he directed a Corporate Business Development for ARINC, a $1B aviation services/product company and worked in the strategy function for two of the largest health care organizations in the US. He has launched new businesses, lead acquisitions, formed alliances and directed capital investment activity. He earned a BS, MBA from Cornell and a research PhD from Rutgers. He has lectured in three schools at Johns Hopkins University.

John Kernan  

John first joined Hardesty Capital Management in 2008 as a marketing intern while he was still an undergraduate. After graduating December 2008 with a B.A. in Economics, he joined the firm as a research analyst. He is currently undergoing the Chartered Financial Analyst program.

In addition to researching and presenting reports on companies in which to invest, John takes on many "side" research tasks for the Investment Committee. These reports present various economic data for the group's consideration. His research focus is in the medical device sector. He also covers areas of technology, both hardware and software. John resides in the neighborhood of Hampden in Baltimore city.

Gary Laben

 

It takes imagination and insight to help clients turn knowledge into customer-focused marketing solutions-two qualities for which Gary S. Laben is known.

In addition to his role as CEO of KBM Group, the data services arm of Wunderman, in March 2013, Gary was named president of the newly formed Wunderman Data & Insights division. He also is a member of the Wunderman Executive Board. As CEO of KBM Group, Gary continues to lead the company through the successful integration of acquisitions as well as to direct its global expansion. During his tenure, he has transformed the company from a marketing services provider to a strategic customer engagement partner for leading global brands as he continues to expand the company's footprint and services through organic growth and acquisition.

As president of Wunderman Data & Insights, Gary oversees the full spectrum of Wunderman's ability to ensure the most appropriate universe of data for clients to integrate and manage that data; and to derive insights through data processing and analytics. The move brings him even closer to his vision of enabling clients to turn customer data into a strategic asset and benefit from more robust "big data" solutions on a global scale. Gary is a 25+-year veteran of the information marketing industry. Prior to joining KBM Group (formerly KnowledgeBase Marketing) in 2000, he served as vice president of marketing and business development at Experian where he was actively involved in growing the company through acquisitions and marketing endeavors.

In 2013, Gary received a Silver Apple from the Direct Marketing Club of New York for outstanding contributions to direct and interactive marketing during a career spanning at least 25 years. In 2012, Gary received the Edward N. Mayer, Jr. Education Leadership Award from the Direct Marketing Educational Foundation. In 2009, he was named Direct Marketer of the Year by the Taylor Institute for Direct Marketing. Gary is actively involved in the direct marketing community serving on the DMEF chairman's advisory council, and as executive advisory board chair of the Taylor Institute. He also sits on the board of several industry companies. He is former chair of the DMEF, and also served on the DMA's board of directors and Ethics Policy committee. Gary is a graduate of Johns Hopkins University with a Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering. He lives with his wife and son in Dallas, Texas.

 

Steve Milt  

Steve Milt is the co-founder of DSA Detection, a leading supplier of sampling media, components and supplies used in passenger, baggage, and cargo security screening. As COO since the company's launch in 2005, Steve oversaw rapid growth to serve a broad and diverse customer base including all US airports, and a strong international presence. The business was acquired by Industrial Safety Technologies in 2012.

Previously Steve worked for GE Ion Track, where he focused on the company's integration into GE Security. Prior to that he was Principal Consultant at PricewaterhouseCoopers, specializing in the banking and publishing industries. His first real job was at IBM working on the GPS program, when the satellite network first became operational.

Steve received a BA in Economics ('91) and an MSE in Computer Science ('93) from Johns Hopkins, as well as an MBA from Cornell.

John Morgan  

John began his career in 1963 as a member of the Initial Management Development Program at C&P Telephone Company of Maryland. He progressed through a number of positions in Engineering, Operations, Network Planning, and Sales at C&P, Bell Atlantic, AT&T, and Verizon.

John retired in 1991 from the Position of Vice President at Bell Communications Research in New Jersey. Since retirement he has run a home automation company and been active in community organizations, sports, and a private country club in Durham, NC.

Alfredo Paredes  

Dr. Alfredo Paredes is a Prosthodontist, a highly educated and uniquely trained specialist in advanced reconstructive and implant dentistry. Dr. Paredes was born in Mexico and migrated to The United States with his family at the age of 18 years and is a fluent Spanish speaker. He has volunteered in local health fairs in Southern California and Mexico. Dr. Paredes has extensive volunteer experience in the medical and dental field. Most importantly, Dr. Paredes is dedicated to improving equal access to Oral Health Care for underrepresented individuals in The United States of America and Latin America. He has visited middle schools in Los Angeles County to give motivational speeches to kids to pursue college education.
Dr. Paredes has worked tutoring Math and Science for several academic organizations, such as Bruin Corps at UCLA. His name also appears as a co-author in the scientific magazine Blackwell Pub due to his research at the UCLA Cardiovascular Department on the Sodium Calcium Exchange and the Plasma Membrane Ca2+-ATPase in Heart cell function. Dr. Paredes earned his degree in the specialty of Advanced Prosthodontics at Loma Linda University in 2012. In 2008, he received his Doctor of Dental Surgery (D.D.S.) and Bachelors in Chemistry (B.S.) in 2004 from the University of California, Los Angeles (U.C.L.A.).

As a specialist in Advanced Prosthodontics, Dr. Paredes’s extra training means that he can offer you a wide range of dentistry: from a single tooth to a complicated case of full mouth reconstruction. Furthermore, Dr. Paredes is currently developing a program targeted to help treat and correct intraoral deformities, such as cleft palate and lip, in developing countries. This will include a surgical and restorative approach to correct the bone, soft tissue and teeth defect. This program is projected to start in 2015.

Dr. Paredes has continuously participated in the board of advisors for a non-profit organization, HealthCare Volunteer, where he maintains the position as Vice President – Latin America. In 2013, Dr. Paredes funded, New Smile Prosthodontics Dental Office, becoming the President of his own dental corporation. In addition to being a health care provider, Dr. Paredes has an interest for business, which motivated him to start his corporation. Dr. Paredes has the experience and knowledge to advise students and new graduates start their own business.

Joanne Pipkin  

Building a career in the financial service industry for over 30 years, Joanne currently serves as a Senior Relationship Manager and Team Leader in Charitable Asset Management at State Street Global Advisors (SSgA). In this position for 17 years Joanne manages planned giving programs for national non-profit organizations. In her role Joanne focuses on client service, problem solving and communications. Prior to SSgA, Joanne held positions as a portfolio manager and a closely-held company analyst. Joanne earned a M.A.S.-Finance degree from Johns Hopkins University and a B.A. from Goucher College. She is also the past President of the Johns Hopkins University Alumni Association Boston Chapter.

Brian Razzaque  

Mr. Razzaque is a seasoned business and technology entrepreneur who has launched several successful ventures. In 1998 he founded his first company, Vision Multimedia Technologies (VMT). Until its sale in 2013, VMT had been recognized as one of the largest web application development firms in the mid-Atlantic region. In 2009 Brian capitalized on an opportunity to leverage his experiences with VMT and invented the social media marketing software SocialToaster: a fan advocacy and messaging amplification platform. He developed SocialToaster as a user-friendly, cost-effective solution to help companies market themselves through social media. Brian is dedicated to helping businesses and organizations grow through the effective use of digital media. He is an expert in social marketing and web technology. He is happily married and enjoys spending time with his two daughters Sophie and Emma.

Erica Salkow  

Erica serves as a Vice President in corporate banking with M&T Bank. In this role, she manages
and builds a portfolio of clients in the middle market segment ($20+ million in annual revenue). She
also leads and organizes a group of banking professionals in various lines of business including:
capital markets, equipment finance, treasury management, international banking and wealth
management.

Prior to transitioning to corporate lending in 2010, Erica spent seven years in the commercial real
estate industry, including three years as a Vice President in Portfolio Management with NewStar
Financial, Inc. in Darien, Connecticut.

Additionally, Erica spent two years as a Legislative Assistant on Capitol Hill. She holds a BS in
Finance from Florida State University and an MBA from Johns Hopkins University (2003).

 
Justin Sherratt  

Justin Sherratt is currently the Co-Director of the Founder Institute in NY. The Founder Institute is the world's largest entrepreneur training & startup launch program, creating sustainable startup ecosystems across over 55 cities. Justin also is the CEO and Founder of @sortbox. A personalized online job board platform for small businesses. Previous he has worked at numerous startups, been a creative technology recruiter and a consultant for Sapient. He also has worked in the advertising and the film and television industry. Justin holds his BA in International Relations from Johns Hopkins and his MA in Filmmaking from The London Film School.

Benjamin Walsh  

Benjamin Walsh has been developing games both personally and professionally for over 15 years. Having been a producer and designer on multi-million dollar titles while at Bethesda Softworks and Big Huge Games, Ben brings leadership and product knowledge to his role as CEO and President of Pure Bang Games. Ben’s credits include AMF Bowling Pinbusters, Star Trek : Conquest (Winner of IGN’s Game of the Month), Age of Empires 3: Asian Dynasties, and WET. He also played a key role in creating new concepts and platform strategies while at Bethesda Softworks.


Ben realizes that as gamers grow up, they still want to play games but have less time to fit it into their busy lives. Having a growing family himself, Ben founded Pure Bang Games to create fun, engaging mobile and social games that make it easy for players to connect with their friends and family

 

Patrick Wayland  

Patrick graduated from Johns Hopkins with a B.S.E. in 1996 and M.S.E. 1997, both in Electrical Engineering. He began his career as an energy trader but quickly transitioned to a technology-focused hedge fund trader and analyst position at a Greenwich, CT based firm.

During the next 11 years he helped found and grow three boutique long/short equity hedge funds and moved from trader to analyst to portfolio manager positions. In 2009 Mr. Wayland joined Merrill Lynch Private Wealth Management to start a wealth management practice focused on serving affluent families and family enterprises.

In 2010 he joined the board of directors of his family's enterprise, Snell Construction Corporation, a real estate asset management and development company based in northern Virginia. Patrick lives with his wife Sarah and two girls Julia and Elizabeth in Rowayton, CT.
