Libowitz Named 'Gazette' Editor

Steve Libowitz has been named editor of the Gazette. He
succeeds Laura M. O'Callaghan who resigned in August after
eight years with the university.
    For the past four years, Libowitz has been a senior
media relations representative in the Homewood campus's
Office of News and Information, most recently representing
faculty and programs in education, public policy and
international relations. Prior to coming to the university,
Libowitz was associate director of the Office of Public
Affairs at The Francis Scott Key Medical Center (now The
Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center) and executive director
and board president of The Baltimore Film Forum. He also has
written and produced more than 100 educational films and
television programs, including Florida's official documentary
on Marjorie Stoneman Douglas and the Everglades, for PBS in
Miami. Libowitz also has written extensively on politics and
media issues for a variety of publications.
    Libowitz earned a bachelor's degree in media studies
from Florida Atlantic University and a master's degree in
mass communication from Towson State University. He currently
teaches film and media studies at Towson State and in the
Johns Hopkins School of Continuing Studies.
