Student Employment Job Fair -- The eighth annual Student Employment Job Fair will be held on Friday, Sept. 10, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., in the Glass Pavilion on the Homewood campus. The fair offers faculty, staff and area business leaders the opportunity to meet with and interview over 1,000 qualified student applicants for part-time employment.

Any department that would like to reserve a booth at this year's event, or would like to have a part-time position posted at the fair, must register by Friday, Aug. 20. A New Graduate-Level Nursing Program -- The School of Nursing announces the graduate-level Nursing Care and Health Systems Specialist program. The new program aims to provide nurses with multiple career options and prepare them to practice as health systems specialists. The curriculum is based on results of an assessment of the health care environment that included input from nurse employers. The program offers three concentrations: patient care management, where students graduate with expertise in the care management of a selected population; health system management, where students graduate with expertise in administering nursing and patient care services; or a combination of both.

Volunteer Maryland Managers -- Johns Hopkins Hospital's Office of Volunteer Services is looking for people to coordinate a volunteer program that will place high school students from the East Baltimore community in volunteer positions at the hospital. Members of AmeriCorps, the national service program, the volunteers dedicate one year to full-time service.

The volunteers must be willing to take on a challenge and create change in the East Baltimore community.

The Volunteer Maryland Managers program will provide a four-week training program at the start of the service year, as well as nine additional training days during the year to support skill development. VMMs receive a living stipend of $10,500, a post-service educational benefit of $4,725, and health insurance if they are not already covered. They may also qualify for a child care allowance. The service year begins Aug. 30 and ends July 21, 2000. Applicants are encouraged to submit their applications early.

Volunteer Maryland Managers must be at least 17 years of age and have a high school diploma or GED. The program looks for applicants who are dedicated to service and motivated; have leadership potential and are comfortable as a manager; have good interpersonal and writing skills; and have a positive attitude and a spirit of adventure.
