Tastes, Sights and Sounds of Israel -- A program exploring Israeli culture and ethnicity will take place on Feb. 9, 10 and 11 at three Baltimore-area schools, including Johns Hopkins.

On the Homewood campus over the course of the three days, there will be photo exhibits, activities, speakers and more. Most events will take place in AMR1 Multipurpose Room and in the Jewish Student Center on the lower level of AMR1. Wendy Brody and the dean of students will open the celebration with a tree-planting on Tuesday, Feb. 9, at 11:30 a.m.

Medical Response to Bioterrorism -- "The National Symposium on Medical and Public Health Response to Bioterrorism" is an effort to create awareness among health professionals regarding possible epidemic catastrophes resulting from terrorists' use of biological weapons. Such terrorism is an increasingly probable threat, of which the national medical and public health communities have not been fully apprised.

The medical community has been little involved in threat assessment or response planning for biological terrorism. With increased awareness, however, health professionals can lend their expertise in developing informed measures against bioterrorism.

Hospice Volunteers -- Johns Hopkins Home Hospice is looking for volunteers to participate in a home hospice program serving the greater Baltimore area and providing care to patients with life-limiting illnesses. Volunteers are needed for direct patient service, bereavement care services and administrative support. The next training session will be held in February. Summer Research -- The Howard Hughes Undergraduate Summer Research Fellowship at Johns Hopkins will award a stipend of $3,000 to up to 30 undergraduates in either the School of Arts and Sciences or the School of Engineering. Students who qualify will conduct laboratory research with a faculty sponsor. Areas of research opportunity include biology, chemistry, sociology, psychology and biomedical as well as other areas of engineering. The deadline for submitting applications is Feb. 16.

Each student should submit a completed application, letter of support from a lab sponsor, letter of recommendation from a faculty member, college transcript and a three-page proposal outlining the research project on which the student will be working during the summer.
