Final weeks of women's health survey of JHMI faculty, staff

The women's health survey of the East Baltimore faculty and staff will continue through the end of May. The survey, being conducted by the Comprehensive Women's Health Center Initiative, asks about services that would be important at a Hopkins women's health center. Female faculty or staff at JHMI who would like to receive a questionnaire should contact Lori Paine at 410-955-4164.

Engineering names Donohue associate dean for research

Marc D. Donohue, a professor of chemical engineering, will become the new associate dean for research in the Whiting School of Engineering. Dean Ilene Busch-Vishniac announced the appointment, which is effective July 1.

"Marc has previously served as chairman of the Chemical Engineering Department and brings to the job a vast knowledge of Hopkins, Whiting School of Engineering research priorities and industries in Maryland," Busch-Vishniac said.

Donohue joined the Whiting School faculty in 1979 as an assistant professor. Earlier, he earned a B.S. degree in chemical engineering at Clarkson College of Technology and a Ph.D. in chemical engineering at the University of California, Berkeley. One of the focal points of his research is the thermodynamic properties of complex molecules.

As associate dean for research, Donohue will succeed Douglas M. Green, who is leaving to became dean of the engineering school at Marquette University in Milwaukee, also effective July 1.

ALS 'motorcade' to arrive at Hopkins on May 17

When a motorized wheelchair brigade of ALS patients pulls up at the hospital's Wolfe Street entrance at 3 p.m. on May 17, accompanied by a police motorcade, they'll be greeted by neurologist Jeffrey Rothstein and offered a tour of the labs where he conducts research on ALS. This is the second year he has opened his lab to Ride for Life, a nonprofit group of ALS patients who ride in wheelchairs or motorized carts from New York City to Washington to publicize their campaign for research.

Rothstein will receive a check earmarked for Hopkins ALS research.
