United Way Kickoff

Johns Hopkins Gazette Online Edition

Jazz and food were enjoyed outside Shriver Hall last Thursday at the university"s official kickoff event for the 1999 United Way Campaign. The event began on a more serious note as speakers told the many gathered inside Shriver how important it is for the Hopkins institutions to reach their combined campaign goal of $1.7 million. Kai Jackson, a news anchor for WJZ-TV and one of the speakers, said there are "folks out there who need a little help," and each United Way contribution "means the world to them." The music was provided by the jazz band of the Paul Laurence Dunbar Sr. High School.
