Habitat for Humanity

Johns Hopkins Gazette Online Edition

Despite the drizzle, university staff members joined 162 volunteers from 22 local companies and organizations on Saturday, April 15, at Sandtown Habitat for Humanity for the Corporate Volunteer Council's spring project during National Volunteer Week.

Volunteers joined residents of this West Baltimore community in swinging hammers, wielding paintbrushes and hauling debris as part of the ongoing neighborhood rebuilding effort. JHU volunteers also organized a Fun Fair for children at the Sandtown New Song Children's Learning Center.

In a project initiated in 1992, Sandtown Habitat is committed to completing more than 200 houses for Sandtown families by the end of the year 2000.
