'ER' Cast On Call For A Feb. 5 Visit

Johns Hopkins Gazette Online Edition

A group of undergraduates has found the perfect way to chase away dreary February doldrums: a visit from the cast of ER. On Saturday, Feb. 5, at 8 p.m. in Shriver Hall, cast members Noah Wylie, Alex Kingston, Eric LaSalle and Laura Innes will take part in a panel discussion for the 1999 Milton S. Eisenhower Symposium, "Redefining the Role of the Media." The actors of this popular ensemble drama, which appears on NBC, are expected to continue the provocative discussion on the role of the media in American society, which began in the fall with speakers like ACLU president Nadine Strossman and Lovelines co-host "Dr. Drew" Pinsky. ER producer Neal Bauer and assistant director Babu Suberamanian also will take part in Saturday's event.

"From what I've heard, [the cast members] are looking forward to it," says senior G. Saketh Ram, who finagled the group's appearance through Suberamanian, a family friend. "We were surprised how all four actors were not only game for it but are doing it for free.

"They'll talk a little about their experiences portraying people in the medical profession," Ram said. "That is why we asked them. Since so many students here are premed, we thought having them here would be especially fun for this campus." Ram says symposium organizers also are extending to Hopkins medical students a special invitation to the event, which is free.

Pray for good weather, says Ram. If snow or sleet is forecast, the cast will not be able to come because the Los Angeles show's production schedule can't afford for anyone to be stranded in the East. And even if the weather looks fine, those planning to attend are advised to call 410-516-7683 to verify the cast's appearance.
