Johns Hopkins Gazette Online Edition

Anthony J. (Tony) Dowgiewicz, director of internal auditing and secretary to the board of trustees' Committee on Audits and Insurance, resigned from the university effective May 31. Dowgiewicz led the Office of Audits and Management Services for 22 years.

"Now is the time for me to leave and move on to new challenges," Dowgiewicz said in announcing his resignation. "I want to give the new leadership of the combined audit departments of the health system and university full flexibility to effect that merger."

James McGill, senior vice president for finance and administration, praised Dowgiewicz's commitment and productive service, saying, "Tony established the internal audit function at Johns Hopkins University and has served the university effectively and well. He has also contributed significantly to the university's record of compliance with federal research cost regulations. Further, he built a national reputation for Hopkins' internal audit department by successfully integrating management services with financial and operational auditing.

"Tony also has assembled a first-rate staff with people who bring special experience and skills in areas such as information technology and health care administration," McGill continued. "He holds the confidence and respect of the university's deans and chairs. Those many Hopkins people who have interacted with the internal auditing department throughout Tony's tenure know the premium he has put on accurate findings and effective recommendations."
