125 Ways of Caring: As part of its anniversary celebration, the university is asking each of the 40,000 faculty and staff members to spend a day volunteering in a community project. To get involved in these or other, ongoing projects, or to set up your own, logon to www.jhu.edu/~125th/volunteer/.

Saturday, Oct. 14, 3 p.m. Academic procession, convocation and presentation of medallions to honor leadership donors to the Johns Hopkins Initiative. By invitation. Shriver Hall, Homewood. Office of Development and Alumni Relations, University Administration.

Saturday, Oct. 14, 6:30 p.m. Gala dinner to celebrate the accomplishments of the Johns Hopkins Initiative. Garland Field, Homewood. Office of Development and Alumni Relations, University Administration.

Tuesday, Oct. 17, all day. 125 Days of Caring event: Cleanup and restoration planting project for Baltimore's Parks and People. Departmental activity. Office of Communications and Public Affairs, University Administration.

Wednesday, Oct. 18, Noon. "125 Years Compressed into One," a lecture by Mame Warren, editor, Johns Hopkins: Knowledge for the World. Open to the public. Admission: Free. Shriver Hall, Homewood. Wednesday Noon Series, Office of Special Events, University Administration.

Saturday, Oct. 28, time TBD. 125 Ways of Caring event: Make a Difference Day at the Dr. Lillie M. Jackson Elementary/Middle School for disabled children. Volunteers needed to paint, mulch, weed, landscape, etc. University Administration.

October, date TBD: 125 Ways of Caring event: Halloween party at Luther C. Mitchell Elementary School. Volunteers needed to help with the party, play games and clean up afterward. Corporate Services, Community Health and Services, Johns Hopkins Health System.

Throughout October: 125 Days of Caring event: Collecting personal supplies for women at the House of Ruth, a shelter for abused women and their children, where the School of Nursing runs a clinic. Volunteer opportunity. School of Nursing.
