Two Johns Hopkins students are bound for competition in the 2000 Summer Olympics, which open Friday, Sept. 15, in Sydney, Australia.

Joanna S. Zeiger, a doctoral student in genetic epidemiology at the School of Public Health, is a member of the U.S. Olympic Triathlon Team. The 30-year-old Baltimore native placed second in last year's North American Triathlon Championships and came in seventh at the 1999 World Championships long-distance race. This is the first time triathlon will be a medal event.

Kamal Masud, a senior in the School of Arts and Sciences, will be representing his home country of Pakistan as part of its men's Olympic Swimming Team. Masud, who will be competing in the butterfly event, is majoring in political science and is a member of the Hopkins men's swimming team.
