Don't Open Until 2076

Johns Hopkins Gazette Online Edition

She may not remember the day her parents, alumni Ed Shapland and Maryanne Courtney, helped President William R. Brody seal a time capsule in the Gilman Hall foyer, but it's hoped that 12-day-old Emily Courtney Shapland will be on hand when it's opened in 2076, the bicentennial of the university and the tricentennial of the United States. The capsule--which contains a letter from Brody, a CD of messages from members of the Hopkins community, JHU's 125th anniversary commemorative book and dozens of artifacts and university publications--was sealed behind this plaque following a ceremony on Oct. 12. The event marked the completion of the university's 125th anniversary celebration.
