One piece at a time
Claude Earl Fox says that before he took over the helm of
the Johns Hopkins Urban Health Institute, he knew how great
a challenge stood before him. But he couldn't have imagined
the complexity of the issues.
"The whole first year was a learning
curve," says Fox, who has now headed the two-year-old
institute for 18 months.
The institute has the daunting charge of
marshaling the resources of the university and health
system to improve the health outcomes of the residents of
East Baltimore, an area of the city shackled with some of
the most alarming health care indicators in the nation.
Executive director named for JH Office of
Brian Dembeck has been named permanent executive director
of the Johns Hopkins Office of Real Estate, effective Dec.
Dembeck, who had been acting as interim
executive director since April, said he will continue his
current charge, which is to head the office that handles
development of real estate projects, leasing of space, and
sales and purchases of real estate for both the university
and Johns Hopkins Health System.
James T. McGill, senior vice president
for finance and administration, said that Dembeck is a
"thorough real estate professional" and the right person
for the demanding position.
