Daniel Sapir, a kidney specialist and internist who was an associate professor at the School of Medicine, died July 28 at his home in Ruxton. Sapir, who was 67, was diagnosed with cancer last year and retired at that time from his medical practice at Johns Hopkins at Green Spring.

Born in Brussels, Belgium, Sapir lived with his family in Lodz, Poland, before emigrating to Queens, N.Y., in 1941. He graduated from Brown University in 1956 and from medical school at Johns Hopkins in 1960. Following a residency in internal medicine at Hopkins and a fellowship in nephrology at Tufts University, he returned to the School of Medicine to conduct research, teach and treat patients with kidney disease. In 1970 he helped establish the kidney dialysis unit at Union Memorial Hospital and was chief of medicine in what is now the Wyman Park Medical Center from 1981 to 1984, when he established a private practice.

Sapir is survived by his wife, the former Anne Morris Rich; a son, Alexander C. Sapir of Verona, N.J.; a daughter, Anne Gardiner De Muth of Baltimore; his mother, Edda E. Sapir of Queens; and five grandchildren.

A memorial service is scheduled for 11 a.m. on Aug. 15 at the Episcopal Cathedral Church of the Incarnation, 4 E. University Parkway.
