JHU Summer Programs -- Registration is open now for classes offered by Johns Hopkins University Summer Programs.

JHU employees who take summer courses receive 100 percent tuition remission. Children and spouses receive 50 percent tuition remission. (For information on tuition remission, call 410-516-6810.)

Among those classes that may be of particular interest to faculty and staff and their families are the following:

Photography. Classes will be held in the Mattin Center during each of the two terms: May 28 to June 28, Monday and Wednesday from 3 to 5:30 p.m., and July 1 to August 2, Monday, Wednesday and Thursday, from 3 to 5:30 p.m.

The first term's introductory course covers the basics of camera operation and gives students an opportunity to work on a chosen project. The second term offers a darkroom course concentrating on developing and printing black and white film. Students will produce a portfolio of 10 mounted photographs.

Both courses require a 35mm camera with adjustable aperture and shutter speed. Class size is limited.

German language classes. German Elements is being offered during both sessions: May 28 to June 28 and July 1 to Aug. 2, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, 6 to 8 p.m.

Intensive German for Business Purposes will be held May 28 to June 28, Monday, Wednesday and Thursday, 6 to 8:30 p.m.

Online courses. This year's expanded offerings include Stars and the Universe, Bioinformatics: Computers in Molecular Biology, and Communication, Culture and the Digital Age. The three-credit college courses are open to undergraduate as well as talented high school students.
