Holiday Greetings!

Johns Hopkins Gazette Online Edition

Emily Cohan, an 18-year-old freshman from Marina, Calif., may have been at Johns Hopkins for only a few months, but she's already made her mark on the university. A holiday card that Cohan designed will soon be on its way to more than 5,000 friends of Johns Hopkins around the world.

Her artwork was chosen by President Brody and his wife, Wendy, from designs submitted by Homewood students working through the Digital Media Center.

The goal for this year's official greeting was to look toward the future by showcasing emerging technologies. With a program called Painter, Cohan used a tablet and stylus to digitally paint a design that Wendy Brody describes as "endearing and uplifting." Cohan's artwork and that by senior Daniel Lin had been chosen as finalists, and the two students worked with the Office of Design and Publications to refine their designs.

Along with the recognition she was given on the card, Cohan received a $100 prize.
