Three Days, Seven Concerts and 100 Years of Music at Three Hopkins Venues

Johns Hopkins Gazette Online Edition

Three groups of world-class young musicians arrive in town this month for the first New Chamber Festival Baltimore, a three-day celebration of 20th-century chamber music that will feature seven concerts, panel discussions, pre-concert lectures and receptions.

One of only two national festivals devoted to string quartets, the festival is produced by the Peabody Institute, the Shriver Hall Concert Series, the Evergreen House Foundation and former members of the Chamber Music Society of Baltimore.

The Endellion String Quartet

The inaugural program offers the Endellion String Quartet, an ensemble in residence at the University of Cambridge; the Lawrence String Quartet, a group in residence at Stanford; and Flux Quartet, formed by musicians at Juilliard.

The festival runs from Thursday, June 20, to Saturday, June 22, with events taking place at Evergreen, Peabody and the Homewood campus. An all-inclusive pass is $99 for adults and $49 for students; single tickets are available for performances. For more information, including a full listing of events, go to www.newchamberfestival.org or call 410-516-7164.
