Health Awareness Day Canceled -- Due to construction on the Homewood campus, the Health Awareness Day for faculty and staff, originally scheduled for 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Wednesday, June 12, in the Glass Pavilion on the Homewood campus, has been canceled.


Animal Care Committee Moves -- The Animal Care and Use Committee offices moved into new space on May 30. All correspondence should now be directed to the Animal Care and Use Committee at B122 Reed Hall, 1620 McElderry St., Baltimore, MD 21205. The phone is 443-287-3738, and the fax is 443-287-4625. All e-mail addresses remain the same.


Donated Items Needed -- The JHHS Community Services Department is collecting new or gently used items for the St. Francis Academy Community Center in East Baltimore. Their "wish list" includes a TV-VCR combo, microwave oven, coffee urn for large quantities, desktop copier, large potted plants, and framed art for the walls. To contribute to the wish list by donating any of the above items, call Ellen Brown at 410-614-2430.


Johns Hopkins Day at Six Flags -- The School of Medicine is sponsoring "Johns Hopkins Day at Six Flags" for members of the JHMI community and their families. The trip is on June 15, from 10:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Tickets can be purchased from Betty Kern in the SOM Human Resources Office, Suite 300, Church Home Professional Office Building, 98 N. Broadway. Cost is $17.20 per person for adults and children over 4 years old (3 and under are free). Meal and parking vouchers will also be sold: $7 for meals, $6 for parking.


Request for Proposals -- The Center for a Livable Future is soliciting proposals to support new and visionary work focusing on achieving a livable future using resources equitably and sustainably, improving health for all and leaving a world fit for future generations.

The center's goal is to promote interdisciplinary research and synthesis that addresses the complex interactions among diet and consumption, health, food production and food security, equity, the environment and the world's resources. The funds available for such research are targeted primarily for collaborative projects. Eight to 10 awards of $10,000 to $20,000 will be granted for one year of support.

Applications for Certificate in Nonprofit Studies Program -- The Institute for Policy Studies is now accepting applications for its fall 2002 classes in the Certificate in Nonprofit Studies Program. This part-time program is designed to develop and enhance the knowledge and practical skills needed by nonprofit staff and volunteers to run a successful organization. Classes begin in September.
